Guide Tips for Family to Grow Flowers in Winter I


1. Transplantation
During the first and second ten days of December, following plants and flowers you could transplant in your garden: Dianthus chinensis, kale, pansy, snapdragon (southern category), Calendula, daisy, hollyhock, mallow, Verbena, Phlox, Zephyranthes candida, Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber, Ophiopogon, etc.

In addition, on both sides of the road into your courtyard you could also grow tulip, hyacinth, narcissus and other bulb flowers, and you may pay attention to cold protection if your garden is situated in areas to the north of the Yangtze River

In early days of December which is a good period for transplanting and planting deciduous flowers and shrubs in gardens, types are: hibiscus, pomegranates, Bauhinia, Wisteria, Campsis, Yu Lee, Prunus triloba, Purple Magnolia, Magnolia, magnolia soulangeana, Chimonanthus, clove, Prunus cerasifera, Purple leaf cherry, purple leaf peach, Betau, peach, American plum, rose category, small red berries, Ligustrum vicaryi, money pine, red incense, Spiraea, Qionghua, snow ball, Admiralty, Jasminum, Spring Festival and so on. It is necessary to try best to keep soil balls of each plant in good condition when transplanting, and watering them enough when plant finished, thus to ensure the success of transplantation.

Following evergreen flowers and shrubs could be transplanted in the garden: sweet osmanthus, France holly, umbrella pine, golden orientalis cv.sieboldii, Sabina chinensis, palm, Phoenix canariensis (environment temperature should not less than -10℃), azalea, gardenia , safflower Loropetalum chinensis, Nandina, box type and so on.

When transplanting evergreen flowers and shrubs, it is to be noted that the soil ball of each plant should be kept in a good condition and be cutted into a moderate size, as well as been moisturized well with spraying.

If you want your flowers blossom in the coming Spring season, you could dig up your flowers such as plum, Chimonanthus praecox, Jasminum nudiflorum, golden bell, camellia and Chaenomeles lagenaria that grow in the garden and transplant them into flower pots, and shelved them in a big double-layer canopy with a good capacity of temperature keeping, together with careful management, they will blossom in the coming Spring season and decorate your home more beautiful.

2. Pruning


There are mainly three species of ornamental plants which should be pruned in the garden, first is ground growing flowers and shrubs, Second is hedges, green walls and color patches; Third is geometric or other shaped plants.


Green Hedges

When pruning you take different standards according to their special functions. To ground planting flowers and shrubs, aside from cutting their worm branches, dead branches and arbitrary-shaped sticks, you should try your best to prune the crown canopy into a natural and beautiful looking, ventilated inside as well as good transmission of light; To hedges, green walls and color patches, they are required face levels, straight lines and defined edges and corners. As to ball shape plants, you should prune them round and decent.
